María José León

Dancer, born on April 29 of 1984, in Écija (Seville), considered a dancer of great temperament and pedigree. With her are five generations dedicated to flamenco. She begins to dance when she was only 4 years old in the academy of her cousins ​​”Son del Sol”.

 

At the age of 13, she made a month-long tour of Holland with the gipsy party show, accompanied by artists such as Carmen Cazarubio, David Morales, Paco Javier Jimeno “El Ecijano” and Son del Sol, among others. 

She is the first dancer of the show “Contrabandista”, presented at the flamenco art biennial of Seville in the year 2002, being the most applauded show of the biennials history. 

After a few years studying in Seville with Matilde Coral, José Galván, Carmen Ledesma and Milagros Mengibar, she set up her own show called “5 generations”, presented in Madrid with to public and critical acclaim. 

With this show she has traveled most of Spain, with very good acceptance.

 

She has won numerous awards among which stand out: 

1st. “Estepona Cantaora” Award. 

2nd. Prize “Peña Perla de Cádiz”. 

2nd. “The Union of the Union” award. 

1st. Federation of Flamenco Entities Award of Seville in 2005. 

She has her own flamenco group with which she covers practically the entire Spanish geography. She also works as a monitor at the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville and is part of the cast of artists of the “Casa de la Memoria” since 2016.
